How to Pick Up Girls
In order to have a successful time with women in Hong Kong, you need to understand the landscape. Hong Kong has a diversity of women, which can be divided into different categories. You will have to spend some time learning the psychology of every girl in order to select the best tactic. If you do not, you risk offending the girl or not providing what she is after.
There are three main types of women in Hong Kong. Each must be handled with a different tactic in order to achieve a successful result. Failure to find what they are after is likely to get you no further than a friendzone or a lack of response to messages; however, if you play your cards right, you could end up with more girls than you know what to do with.
The first type of girl is the native Cantonese woman. She speaks little English, and there is a great difficulty in breaking this language barrier. With that being said, most of the Cantonese women understand the language of money. You will find a lot of interest in you simply because of your expat status. It is automatically assumes, particularly if you are a Caucasian from the West, that you have tonnes of cash in your bank account. If you do not have the budget for this, do not be tempted by the allure of a date that is likely to bankrupt you after the appetizer. Hong Kong is an expensive place, and these types of women always expect more. Instead, leave this to the sugar daddies. If you happen to be an expat with lots of cash, you are in luck. This type of girl is perfect for you.
Note: Other Asian girls, such as Thai, Indonesian, Chinese and more also fit into this first category (by and large)
The second type of woman is an anomaly. Many Chinese girls grow up or move to western countries such as the United States, but move back to Hong Kong for the culture or career-related pursuits. These Asians grow up in a normal western home. They can be kind of snobbish – some may say they have an attitude which makes them look down on others; they definitely do not associate with the local Cantonese people and they would be offended if you mistook them for one. With that being said, the great advantage is that these women understand English. This is just the foothold you need. You will find that they have a natural allure to expats, as they consider western culture to be superior to the local Chinese one; thus, a simple “hello, I find you beautiful” may just do the trick. You can also find women like this on social media and dating apps.
Hong Kong attracts many foreigners with its wealth; In fact, the level of wealth on offer is so vast that many professionals in the states seek to advance their careers by taking up a position in the city. You will find that a few of these immigrants have families and their daughters are in university and now form a part of the Hong Kong society. There are lots of girls from Russia, Eastern Europe and Scandinavian countries – and they are gorgeous! There is also a big ‘gap in the market’, as most foreigners who come to Hong Kong end up hooking up with the local girls (or at least an Asian-looking girl). You can use this to your advantage, especially considering that these ethnicities are usually very difficult to hook up with in their native countries. One trip through middle to eastern Europe will demonstrate this. Thus, if you find a girl from this category, don’t be shy to approach them – the results may be better than you anticipated.
Gaming is a tough challenge in Hong Kong, mainly because of the pace of the city. Everyone is busy with the next big business venture or another assignment and so on. Thus, you have to catch girls in the right frame of mind in order to be successful. One way to achieve this is to use a wingman or wing-woman. The introductions amongst students and local girls is a definite way of breaking the ice, and your chances of hooking up almost quadruple. To access a wing-woman, you can try making friends online through dating apps. Wingmen are a lot easier to find; you can find someone at a local bar or at work if you can manage to get a job. Even a mate at a hostel will suffice. The important thing is to get yourself introduced to as many girls as possible.
Hong Kong is one of the more patronizing places in Asia, as money really does speak for almost everything within the city; however, if you are smart about the way you game, having sex in Hong Kong is not difficult. What you need to remember is that your expat status is an advantage. You will draw attention as soon a you enter the room. This opens up a conversation or two which can create a ripple effect if you are smart. Thus, there is loads of opportunity - it is all about what you make of it.
There are lots of petite Asian girls, which is further enhanced by the latest fashion trends Hong Kong has to offer. Moreover, the local diet is pretty good. Most of the household, traditional food is made with grains and vegetables instead of the typical western fast food culture. With that being said, there is a decided lack of really hot girls. Most of the really pretty Chinese girls are closely guarded by rich boyfriends and you basically have no chance. There is a good mic of Australian, European and American girls, however, and the amount of them that are taken works out in your favour. They can be very hot.
Most of the Hong Kong girls are nice, provided you have some commonality in language. Fortunately, Hong Kong is actually a lot like Singapore - a city full of Asian girls who speak relatively good English. While you may come across quite a few Cantonese girls who only speak the native tongue, you will also find an equal number of highly-educated Chinese girls who love chatting with expats. Like most places you get great people and not so nice ones. Fortunately, most of the girls are friendly.
Stereotype of girls: One of the upsides of Hong Kong is the great bouquet of Chinese girls who speak English, more traditional Chinese women who mainly understand Cantonese and the mandarin dialect as a second option, and foreign girls from places such as Australasia, Europe and the Americas. There are even a few Latinas in the mix; although, this is uncommon.
Chance of mature ladies: This is a difficult task, as many of the older women are already involved with other men - whether it be a marriage or another such partner. Despite this, there are many career women who look for expats, in particular, to spend time with. You may just get sex and a few gifts. The best way to connect with a mature woman would be through dating apps. You don't really want to risk offending anyone in public, and you may just ruin your reputation with other people if word spreads.
Tips for Daytime
The chances of getting a girl during the day are decidedly less than at night. The culture of the city is one that focuses primarily on careers and money, and this is sometimes just out of necessity, as the cost of living is a heavy price tag.
Also, you have to be subtle with your approach while still breaking down the language barrier. Speaking to girls can be difficult in this sense; however, a lot of them have great English, so you shouldn't struggle for too long.
Best spots to meet girls: Hooking up during the daytime requires something of a subtle approach. Much of the population reveres foreigners, so you will always have an advantage when looking to randomly approach a pretty girl on the street (important note: this is not true for the majority of Asia; usually foreigners are viewed with a sense of bitterness, as they are responsible for most of the litter and civil conflicts).
Use your status in Hong Kong to your advantage. All that is missing is a suitable location in which to meet girls. Remember, volume is your friend. If you enter a vicinity that has enough girls, chances are you won’t walk away empty handed.
One of the best places to look in Hong Kong is a good mall. Popular malls are filled with people, as they seek to spend their hard-earned money at fantastic retail venues which are nothing short of spectacular. Now, this is best done with a wingman/woman. However, if needs must, you will have to fight the battle alone. The best malls are listed below:
- The Landmark
- Harbour City
- Pacific Place
- IFC Mall
- Times Square Shopping Mall
- Elements Hong Kong
- Festival Walk
- New Town Plaza
- SOGO Japanese Department Store
Universities are also fruitful places in which to find plenty of opportunity. Now, the best way is to start by making friends. The culture of Hong Kong is one giant social circle; everyone knows everyone, which can work to your favour if you are willing to reach out of your comfort zone and meet a few people.
Try the following universities for the best results:
- University of Hong Kong - the most popular university in the region.
- Hong Kong University of Science and Technology - You will find lots of foreign girls; however, people here tend to be more work-orientated.
- Chinese University of Hong Kong – the best university, an ivy league of the city.
You could also use train stations to your advantage. As Hong Kong has one of the most advanced metro systems in the world, there are thousands of people going through train stations every day. Many of these people include pretty local girls and a few gorgeous expats as well. While the rush of the station might seem like the most opportunistic time to engage in a romantic pursuit, the chances of meeting a girl and having her in the same train while you travel together makes this the perfect recipe for getting quite a few numbers. You can go to any train station throughout the city. You will find girls in the station itself and within the trains.
Hong Kong park is also a great location where you can find girls to have sex in Hong Kong. It is over 80, 000 square meters of gorgeous natural scenery where you will be able to find girls. Moreover, it doubles as a great first date venue where you can grab a cup of coffee and chat about life.
Tips for Nighttime
SUnday, Monday and Tuesday are the worst nights to go out. You will only find other expats, who are on holiday, partying at these times, so the vibe isn't amazing. The only time to venture out would be if a special event were to fall on one of these nights. The best time to hit the clubs is on clubs would be Thursday, Friday and Saturday. This is when everyone goes, so you will have lots of opportunity to find a girl. They are around, and they find foreigners to be an aphrodisiac, particularly the Caucasian westerners.
Now, in terms of actually hooking up, you will find that the nightlife differs dramatically from the day. Instead of being indirect and subtle, you may have to be a bit pushy. Hong Kong men get a little more direct when they have alcohol, so a girl will not even notice your advances unless you are as direct. This does mean a tad touchy, so you might try something like making direct eye contact while touching her gently on her shoulder, indicating that you want to dance or move to a place with less other men. Foreigners have a good reputation - in direct contrast to the rest of Asia. As a foreigner, you may struggle with the more pushy approach, especially because it is considered unacceptable in most other regions where a whisper in the ear is about as much as you can achieve at first. However, it is an important distinction you will have to make in your mind. Avoid getting too hands on: grab her boobs or her ass and you will be in big trouble.
Best nightclubs to meet girls:

Moreover, the mix of friendly locals, world-class DJs and lots of tourists makes the nightclub experience perfect for the single lad looking for heaps of fun. It has been consistently voted the best club in Hong Kong's famous party region: Lan Kwai Fong.
- Play Club Hong Kong - This is the place to be, and the club has gained a reputation internationally. Thus, you will find lots of visitors as well as a slew of beautiful local girls. Play Club boats over 6,000 square feet of dancing space as well as a tastefully decorated venue, part of the reason why the worldwide attraction has had DJs like Skrillex, Diplo, Afrojack and Paul Van Dyk. There are also more comfortable couch areas where you can find yourself chatting up girls (or making out) while resting.
- Levels - With over 8,000 square feet of dancing area, levels is one of the more premium clubs in the city. It has a massive, LED-filled dance floor, glamorous reflective surfaces and neon lights with wooden finishing. The clubbing scene in Hong Kong is nothing short of magical. In fact, if the list of world-class clubs were to be included on this page, it would probably be too over whelming for any reader. Besides the list of clubs above, you can head to any of the major partying districts and select a venue which happens to be buzzing on the night. There are always lots of girls out, so there is opportunity for lots of hook-ups. This is probably the best way to get laid in Hong Kong, especially because the presence of a foreigner is a natural attraction which most girls love. Add alcohol and loads of fun into the mix, and you have a good recipe for a fantastic pull.
Top Dating Tips
Fortunately, there is no shortage of opportunities for an unforgettable date in Hong Kong. The city has plenty of options for various budgets. Note: you don't want to come across as too cheap. Like it or not, many of the girls in Hong Kong expect you to lay some cash on the table, so don't go too cheap. For the best date ideas in a city that can sometimes be overwhelming, try some of the following ideas:
As an expat, you will probably draw a lot of attention. If your goal is to get as much action as possible (as in sleep with as many girls as you possibly can) you should stick to the conventional coffee shop trip as your first date. This will ensure that you save money in the long run, and it's exciting enough to keep the money-hungry girl appeased.
If you are going on a date with another expat, you can try doing a traditional tourist activity. Not only is this exciting, but you aren't forced to create small talk throughout the whole date. The sites on offer allow you to engage naturally with your date. Try Lockcha Tea House in Hong Kong Park or the Aviary, which is close by.
Honk Kong is one of the most advanced cities in the world. It happens to also be the most visited city, too; thus, you need to stay ahead of the technological trends in order to succeed with hooking up. If you are looking to have sex in Hong Kong fairly quickly, social media is an obviously successful route. It affords you the opportunity to connect with many different girls in a relatively short space of time. After you find someone whom you like, take her out for a coffee date. Be careful not to invest too much on a first date, as you may not click that well. Also, you should take out lots of girls - as many as you can - so this concept helps your wallet.
As for the best apps, try the following online dating platforms in Hong Kong:
There are a few staples which you will need no matter where you are, and Hong Kong is no exception. The following three apps are the most important tools in the single player's arsenal - and for good reason. You should always turn to these as your first choice.
- Tinder - The most common dating app around the world. Tinder is a must have in the busyness of the Hong Kong city life. Nobody actually has time to go out and meet people due to work pressures and the general hustle required to survive in the city. You will often find people swiping in their spare time, particularly those of a student age. The app is packed with potential; the only downside is the amount of people you have to swipe through in order to get a match.
- Bumble - described as the Tinder that supports female comfort, Bumble is pretty much the same as the aforementioned dating giant; however, the onus is on the girl to initiate the conversation after a match. While this may seem like a negative factor, it does save you a lot of time. You know that the people who message you are more likely to meet up. Also, Bumble boasts an impressive database, which should satisfy you for some time.
- Happn - This dating app has fast become a staple around the world. Created by a French development company, Happn was tasked with providing users with better conversations. It does so by matching users with other users who they actually pass during their travels. Remember that gorgeous girl you passed in the park? With Happn, you might just see her again.
Hong Kong is also a diverse location, so there are a few less mainstream apps to try These are fun to use, but should be an addition to one of the three main apps.
- 3nder - This app is a standard dating app - no biggie. However, it does contain a naughty twist. Instead of looking for matches with other girls, it connects you with other people looking to have an 3-way. Swingers and people looking to spice things up - this is the app for you.
- Paktor - A local Application which leverages on its simplistic, user friendly design in order to connect people with similar interests. Paktor does not share photos, but reveals gender, age and personal interests and goals. You will have to forgo the control of looks, though.
- Blendr - What was created as the heterosexual version of Grindr (made by the same developer actually) never actually took off. However, Hong Kong has adopted the app as its own, and there are lost of singles on the database ready for some action. There is a fun location setting on the app, which allows you to chat to singles in a specific area - just what you need for a hook-up!
What Kind of Guys Have the Best Chances
Ethnicities are important, but not as important as you may think. Hong Kong, being the tourist attraction that it is, has a lot of potential for gaming. There are a few different types of women, and each of these have different preferences. For starters, you have the local Cantonese women; as an expat, you will struggle to get the time of day from these women without learning their language. Those who do agree to spend time with you are likely gold diggers. Next, you have Chinese women who lived in Western countries. They settle in Hong Kong as a compromise between western culture and a Chinese one - they also have perfect English and will be insulted if you compare them with the Cantonese women. These women love Caucasian men. Lastly, you have expats who are on holiday or who have moved to Hong Kong for the sake of their career. They often feel left out due to men looking to hook up with only Asian girls, but there are so many beautiful foreign women around. This can't be stressed enough. Some of the foreign girls in Hong Kong are drop-dead gorgeous!
Risks while Gaming
Hong Kong Men are infamous for their cockblocking techniques, particularly with foreign guys. While you may not encounter many who are willing to get into a fight (the policing system is so good that civil unrest is usually caused by a drunk foreigner) spending a night out only to get clock blocked at every turn is extremely annoying. To solve this, you shouldn't make it obvious that you are simply looking for sex. Instead, look to make lots of friends. You can then pick the best out of the crop later.
How to Get Laid as Soon as Possible
There are two approaches to getting laid: a direct one and an indirect approach. Both of these have merit, but they largely depend on your personal style and personality. More confident extroverts may choose a different approach to the mysterious loner type. The most important thing to remember is that your foreign status is an automatic advantage over the local Hong Kong men. Most of the women prefer Western Caucasians, and Hispanics would be second on the list. With that being said, there are two main ways to hook up with girls in Hong Kong.
The first method is to hit the clubs and bars as the sun goes down on the busy city. Even though the digital age is a great aid when it comes to dating, nothing beats that physical presence when you are looking to have sex in Hong Kong.
Internet dating applications are the second-best way to get laid. With these apps, you have the advantage of filtering through many different girls. Hong Kong is surprisingly short of stunning girls; most of them are taken. Therefore, utilizing the online platforms gives you a greater chance of actually chatting up a girl who is 7/10 and above. Also, you will be connected with a few of the foreign girls on vacation – a treat at times!
Gold Diggers and Sugar Babies
Hong Kong is a city that promises lots of wealth for those who are willing to work hard and show a bit of commercial flair. This stems from its rich development post independence when the nation really embraced the economic and industrial segments introduced by imperialism. Today, there are many wealthy people in Hong Kong who flaunt their wealth.
As the social structure would have it, a few gold diggers have emerged. These women, attracted by the wealth on offer, seek to use their beauty in the hope of luring men into buying them nice things. Due to the wealth on offer, some of these women get upmarket apartments, fancy cars and flashy jewels.
If you are looking for a sugar baby in Hong Kong, you will have to realize one important factor: you will need quite a bit of money to actually get gold diggers. Unlike other Asian nations where the rate of poverty means that a middle class westerner can dazzle girls with a bit of spare cash, Hong Kong does not have the same economic issues. As a result, sugar daddies need a near inexhaustible bank account in order to attract a girl; otherwise, she will simply make a move for the next rich guy.
Swinger Clubs and Naturism
Swinging is a very taboo subject in Hong Kong, and you won't find it mentioned much in mainstream public. However, there are still a few things happening behind the scenes if you are willing to look hard enough. There are no physical clubs, but thanks to the internet, people often meat in apartments or homes to engage in orgies. It's as simple as signing up to one of the swinging websites.
The best ones are listed below:
- Swing and Bang
- Hong Kong Sex Party
As for strip clubs, you will find that most of them are located in the Wan Chai region. However, you have to proceed with a level of discernment; some of the clubs are nothing more than a front for prostitution. These are easily recognizable by the fact that there is no stripping.
Try these specific strip clubs for the best results:
- Goodfellas - a very VIP feel, but you will need a lot of cash before you go in. Also, the drinks are expensive. There are lots of gorgeous girls, though.
- Divino - Located in the Macau region, Divino is one of the best strip clubs the city has to offer. The girls are sourced from all over the world, meaning different types of beauties for all tastes. Divino is definitely one of the city's best.
Costs of Living
The cost of living in Hong Kong can be quite expensive, but there are ways to save costs. As the city is still a administrative capital of China, there are a great many ways to take advantage of the culture to save a few pennies. An example of this would be to get food from a street vendor instead of a restaurant or staying in a hostel as opposed to a hotel. If you follow this recipe, you can save quite a bit during your stay. On the other hand, many foreigners and locals enjoy the lavish lifestyle that Hong Kong Island offers. This wealthy district will eat tonnes of cash if you aren’t careful. On the lower end of the economic scale, you should budget for at least $150 per day. By the time you’re done paying for food, transport and accommodation, you will find yourself close to this sum. On the other hand, spending more than $1500 per day in Hong Kong is not unheard of; there is tremendous luxury on offer, so many wealthy visitors tend to splash out a bit. Dates can also get expensive. Be sure to factor an extra $20 - $50 in your budget for a coffee date.
Real estate in Hong Kong is extremely expensive. This causes a surge in the price of accommodation. If you go during festive times, you are unlikely to find anything for less than $80, which is really expensive compared to most cities. You can get a bottom of the rang hotel for approximately $150 and up. These are unlikely to be more than a room and a small bathroom – nothing too fancy.
Hotels can get really expensive if you go for the luxury route. Also, the closer you get to the waterfront, the more you should expect to pay. 4- and 5-star hotels start at around $300 per night, but you can get a room in a luxury hotel for as much as $700 per night. The Hong Kong Island waterfront is particularly expensive, which is where you will find places such as the Peninsula, the Four Seasons and the Ritz Carlton.
Airbnb is unlikely to be much cheaper. You will have to be willing to spend around $200 - $300 on an apartment in the city. However, in some cases, the cost is worth the close proximity to all of the action. You don’t want to stay too far from the city centre. It’s easy to get lost after a night out, especially if you have consumed alcohol or you don’t want to lose the interest of your female companion.
Alcohol is available in different varieties. There are mass-produced local brands which are a lot cheaper than anything imported from Japan, America and Europe. If you walk into a grocery store, you should expect to pay around $2 for a bottle of domestic beer and circa $3 for the imported alternative.
Obviously, the prices of alcohol are widely dependent on which restaurant you choose to dine at. Should you choose to buy beer from a trendy, upmarket restaurant will charge as much as $8 for a beer. However, you should expect to pay somewhere in the region of $5 at a mid-market restaurant or franchise food store.
On the lower end of the scale, food need not be too much of a worry. Some of the local restaurants and vendors will offer a meal for as little as $3. These meals comprise of traditional Cantonese cuisine, and they are extremely tasty.
Fast food isn’t too expensive either; a Big Mac costs no more than $3 – and you can get a combo meal at most fast food joints for less than $7. A lot of people find that some of the fast food options taste very different in Asian regions, so you may want to opt for local food instead. It is healthier, cheaper and tastier, to be honest.
How to Get There and Move Around
By air: Hong Kong has an award-winning airport, which has been acclaimed for many of its services, including dining, service and most visitors in some years. Everything is state of the art; moreover, it is really easy to access the rest of the city through transportation options which originate from the airport. Landing in Hong Kong is always exciting, and the view is breath-taking. It sits on its won island which has to be traversed before you can get to Hong Kong proper.
By bus: The bus system is really good. Unlike most other regions in China, it has instructions in English and Chinese. You will hardly ever get lost and it's a cheap way to get around. Moreover, should you feel the need to go somewhere at night, the bus system will be fully operational.
By car: Taxis are a good way to get around; however, you should opt for the bus if you want to save a bit of cash. Also, Uber is generally better than the taxis. It is slightly cheaper and you don't pick up the hassles that comes with the driver not understanding English.
By train: The trains are insanely good! Hong Kong probably has the best metro system in the world, as its high-speed trains carry passengers at 220 miles per hour to and from their destinations. The train stations themselves are great places; you can go shopping, meet cute girls and find interesting stores to pass the time. Moreover, you can get to China in no time for a day trip.
By boat: Boat trips are not used for everyday transport. Rather, they are a pastime of you have a bit of money and free time to expend. Choose between luxury tours, yachting and cruises along the islands. It'll cost you a fair penny, though.
Visas: Most Western countries, including the UK, members of the EU and citizens of all nations in North America are allowed visa-free access for at least 30 days. Citizens of other nations best check Hong Kong's requirements for the specific country of origin Almost all countries, bar war and terrorism stricken regions, are generally allowed in for at least 30 days without a visa.
Digital Nomads and Remote Work
Hong Kong is a thriving commercial environment and professionals are pretty much guaranteed a job if they can operate in anything connected to the finance industry. Thus, lawyers, accountants, bankers and business administrators are all in high demand. Computer and data engineers are also likely to command a good wage, as the digital age continues to advance at a rapid pace.
Unlike the rest of Asia, most people have a good command of English - at least enough to understand what is going on. Thus, the usual path of English teaching is not as lucrative, as the positions are often filled by English-speaking Asians.
The expenses of the city - particularly accommodation - males a low-entry job difficult to live on. SO waitering and such does not fare too well. Rent alone costs at least $1000 per month for a tiny apartment - and it's really tiny! As a result, you will need a trade or profession of some sort in order to survive for any longer than a trip you have saved for.
Internet and Mobile Operators
There will always be a good connection for any expat, as the facilities in Hong Kong are world class. Moreover, the internet speeds are faster than most other cities in the world – cheap, too. As a result, you simply need to go to any cellular provider store at the airport. Do this as soon as you land to ensure that you are connected. Pick a sim card from one of the leading brands. Once you buy a sim, load some money onto the card and purchase enough data to keep you connected.
Choose from the following list of mobile carriers:
- CSL – the most popular carrier and probably the best choice for expats.
- China Mobile – a great choice if you are traveling further into China at a later date.
- Three – Another great choice which anyone would be satisfied with. They are slightly cheaper; however, services are not as comprehensive if you choose to travel.
Gambling and Casinos
Gambling is legal in Hong Kong. It also has a long tradition, as the local Cantonese people have enjoyed a few choice gambling and betting games for centuries. While the domestic gaming endeavours may be small, they are fun. You can find some of these games in bars around. However, in bars, they are not exactly legal, so you are required to get to know the gamblers before they invite you to join.
Casinos are fun and over the top. You can spend quite a bit of money at these venues – gambling aside. The owners ensure that everyone who enters the premises has access to entertainment, which includes amazing restaurants and all sorts of attractions to keep an entire family entertained.
For the best gambling experiences in Hong Kong, try one of the following casinos – they’re immensely popular and they have all of the games you could want:
- The Venetian
- The City of Dreams
- Sands Hotel and Casino
- Wynn Las Vegas
- Plaza Hotel and Casino
Weed and Drugs
The islands which make up the city of Hong Kong were once the cornerstones of the Chinese drug industry, for they acted as a middle ground for drug smugglers who sought to get their merchandise into China. While the drug industry has been curbed to a great extent, there are still triads who control the modern supply of drugs into the city.
Every type of recreational drug is illegal. Weed, Meth, Cocaine, LSD, Ecstasy, Heroine (and more) are all illegal. The best place to buy drugs would be in the clubbing regions, such as Wan Chai and Tsim Sha Tsui, but they should probably be avoided. They are expensive, and the effective drug unit, which holds a tight grip on the city, are famous for their undercover raids.
If caught in possession, expats should expect a hefty fine and immediate deportation. Rather avoid drugs in the city of Hong Kong, as the chances of getting caught are a tad too high for comfort.
Health, Fitness, Gyms and Massage
The fitness industry is a fairly large one, which means that there are a lot of regularly-attended gym chains across the city. There are a few girls at these gyms, so you could always keep your eye out for someone who strikes your fancy. Moreover, the more upmarket your gym of choice is, the better-looking the girls are likely to be. This is because Hong Kong's wealthier socio-economic segments generally have prettier girls. Most of the brands are American, so try the following list of gyms:
- Pure Gym - An upmarket gym with everything you need. The clubs are great and feature swimming pools, saunas and lots of members. Expect to pay around $100 per month, but try a little negotiating to see if you can get a better deal.
- Fitness First - A mid-market gym with lots of members and everything you need to have a fantastic workout. There is one membership for all of the gyms, so you can visit others while travelling the city. membership is around $45 per month.
- Anytime Fitness - Unlike their American counterparts, Anytime Fitness in Hong Kong is a small gym that targets areas which bigger gyms cannot. It's good for a quick workout if you are travelling around. The price differs from gym to gym.
Massage parlours are fronts for sexual jobs which are done by the women who provide the services. Prostitution is illegal, but only if it is organized, essentially outlawing brothels only. Other than that, prostitution is fair game for wilful sole 'business women', as they would be described. Whether or not you choose to visit these massage parlours is up to you, but be warned that they are often filled with STDs. Moreover, some of the women do not clean up properly after their previous guests, only adding to the hygiene and STD concern.
STDs and HIV
STD rates in Hong Kong are nowhere near a level where you need to be too concerned if you engage in protected, safe sex. Thus, you should remain careful whenever you want to hook-up with someone. While HIV may not be much of a threat, you may still come into contact with less severe forms of STDs. Herpes, Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea and Syphilis remain a threat.
Be cautious around strippers and prostitutes. While you may think that these pretty girls are harmless, they encounter many men from all over the world - sometimes from the poorer regions of Asia which have far higher rates of HIV and STDS. Some of the diseases can also be transferred orally. Prime examples are herpes and Gonorrhoea, so be very careful whenever you engage in sex with anyone who has crossed streams with these industries.
Testing is available throughout the city at government-funded clinics. They are free for holders of a Hong Kong ID; however, expats are required to pay around $140 for the process, depending on how many tests are required. If it comes to that, you will probably fare better at a private clinic. They charge around $80 for the test, and it will be comprehensive.
Hong Kong is one of the safest cities in Asia, with a large high density population with diverse socio-economic backgrounds managed very effectively.
