Mexico has been long known for drug cartels and gangs. If you are visiting small towns and borders that fall under Mexican cartel area, try and avoid traveling alone especially after sunset. If you are in the major cities too, going out in the dark on deserted roads can be very dangerous. Call a cab and wait till its there to pick you up.
