| Description | No, this isn't a pretty picture. Rather, it shows what a demented lunatic can do to his own people. This is the memorial stupa in the (in)famous Choueng Ek Kiling Fields near Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The demented lunatic called Pol Pot, wanting to turn Cambodia into an agrarian economy, then went about killing anyone with an education, who might oppose his regime. It is estimated that nearly 50% of Cambodia's population was decimated during his 3yrs and 8 months reign of terror between 1975 and 1979. More info as we go along in this album. This memorial stupa contains the skulls and bones of nearly 400 of the victims exhumed from mass graves at the site. (Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Apr/ May 2014) |
