English: The creation of the Lake Niassa Reserve is just the first step in the process of fostering opportunity through conservation. A variety of both land- and lake-based activities are included in the management plan, including continued efforts to strengthen communities’ capacity for innovative fisheries management, the establishment of green belts along all rivers, the promotion of conservation agriculture within deltas and floodplains, and prevention of destructive wildfires in sensitive areas through a program of early management burning.
USAID has worked in partnership with the government of Mozambique, the World Wildlife Fund, and the Coca-Cola Company to protect the species and natural habitats of the of the most biodiverse freshwater lake on earth.
